The economic crisis and its social consequences.
Question: What’s wrong and emerged Golden Dawn the political scene?
The Greeks reached the point of eating the soup at the queues, where previously there had been seen only marginalized migrants. Put all the blame on the social and political elite in Greece. Many who support Golden Dawn do not support its policies but they adopt its political concept because of indignation and dry reaction. While the Greek middle class collapses, the future of political life in Greece starts to move restrictively between the political long ends. At the same time the political system impassively faces the rise of the extreme right, Golden Dawn.
The Greece lives again the Great Depression of 1929. This crisis is not only economical, but primarily social and political. Many young people frustrated by the political corruption in these areas resort to the party of Golden Dawn channelling their anger and frustration. Nevertheless, indignation is not a political action.
The Golden Dawn is trying to become an institutionalism tool of indignation. We observe an institutionalised fascism against a problem of legitimacy of the institutional political structure of the Greek State.
The Greeks are seeking changes at institutional and personal level.
The combination of the following factors has led many Greeks to vote for the Golden Dawn.
Financial (austerity, recession, unemployment)
Political (political system)
Cultural (lack of structure, lack of education in the policy)
Similar factors had led the Weimar Republic in decline. The voters of the Golden Dawn are disappointed with politicians because they are not involved in a collision with vested interests. The party of Golden Dawn demonstrates itself as anti-systemic. The emergence of the Golden Dawn from the Greek political margin is commensurate with its economic and social crisis in Greece.
The young, the unemployed, the High School graduate is the person who casts Golden Dawn. He/She is disappointed by the political and institutional architecture in Greece. She/ he believes more in the Army, the Church and the police despite the Parliament. It is him/her who considers himself a looser of sidelined opportunities.
This resentful and marginalized feel of a person who wants to feel the belonging to a family drives voters towards the Golden Dawn. Although, in Greece the protest is ideological. Migration, unemployment, crime is interconnected in Golden Dawn’s fans model thinking. The immigrant personifies the causes of common misfortune.
Golden Dawn fans incorporate hate towards the Humanity.
The fans of Golden Dawn do not resemble the Greek cosmopolitan. The fans of Golden Dawn feel animosity towards the European Union and globalization. The fans of Golden Dawn create there legend myth in order to live in reality. At a time of a demystification of everything the fans of this extreme party reflect the introversion of populism and extremism.
The perceptions of the followers of the Golden Dawn are arising from the merger of three historical circumstances: the separation between the royalists and the liberals during the Second World War, the exclusion of the Left in the 1950s and 1960s and terrorism of the civil war in Greece after 1945.
Extreme Nationalism and populism are the social characteristics of the Golden Dawn.
Golden Dawn is presented as:
Lack of transparency and social inclusivity led many to the Golden Dawn. This demonstrates that it is not only the financial crisis that led many voters to Golden Dawn, but also the social and political crisis.
The delegitimation of the patron – client regime in Greece from 1974 till nowadays led to 2010 and the official bankruptcy of the Greek state. Bankruptcy upon the social and economic policy. The delegitimation of the political system helped the cultivation of the social institutionalization of the Golden Dawn, in the garb of an institutional shell.
False and frivolous choices of Greek politicians brought about the frustration of our citizens. The result of these policies emerged in the recent referendum on July 5, 2015 where the comparative majority of Greek population to 60% rejected the proposed reform positions of pro-European parties. The credibility crisis of the Greek political system is not limited to the field of economy or society. It runs all institutions.
The profile of the far-right Golden Dawn voter

The end of the ancient regime coincides with the end of illusions and the emergence on the surface of the political system ideological right-wing formations.
The elections of 2007/2009 and 2012 clearly showed the power of the far right in Greece. Golden Dawn voters are marginalized. They are mostly unemployed. In the ranks of these followers there are active members mostly men aged 18-34 years. The Golden Dawn follower is typically an average high school graduate.
Attitudes of followers of the Golden Dawn in society issues in Greece
Question: What ideas do you express?
The attitudes of the Golden Dawn supporters are cultured in this triangle of the political margin. Protest, xenophobia and ultra-nationalism constitute a framework ideology eschatological character. The voter of the Golden Dawn awaits salvation in an emergency situation from a messiah – charismatic leader with extraordinary powers. Democracy had failed miserably for that voter. Emotion overrides logic.
Greece was dominated for 180 years by the struggle between two cultural trends: the modernization trend and the trend of the traditional Greek Orthodox-East. The crisis of 2009 revealed the rotten foundations of the secular (sic) state in Greece, parasitism, statism, the patron-client system.
The regime of corruption and political patronage annulled substantially in 2010 but the actors still act. The institutional deficit remains painful and Greeks who do not believe anymore on the shaky foundations of the system are believing the extreme Golden Dawn.
The remarkable thing is that the fans of the Golden Dawn are being possessed by a messianism with religious origins similar to that governing the collective attitude of our country extreme para-religious circles What causes this similarity?
Perhaps it is the spiritual way of an introverted Greece towards the challenges of globalization. Perhaps it is the final result of cultural ferment that emerged due to the economic crisis. Perhaps it is simply the cry of the marginalized person. This cry meets the voices of the extreme left in many places outside the religious. The traditional ecumenism of Greece that excelled in the Greek Diaspora centres became unfortunately an introverted weak colony state of the European Union.
Even if you ignore the Golden Dawn you commit a deliberate political act.
The assumption of political responsibility of a murder Golden Dawn has committed has in deed great political semantics. It attempts to transmute the political system from within. This is the real enemy.
Is a murder a political act?
For the Golden Dawn it is and this is the most important of all. The messianism of the Golden Dawn based on the flimsy parliamentary system ruins of the Third Greek Republic.
The charm of an irrationalism again obscures the political life of Greece. The innocent days have passed. Here comes a nouveau regime. But is it the old one?
